Wall Street is getting hit hard today, 2/17/09. Almost all stocks are down except a select few and most gold stocks.

Why is the Stock Market down Today?

- Japan reported over the weekend that their recession is worsening.

Colgan Flight 3407 Crash Update 2/16/09

There have been new details released tonight on the Continental Colgan Flight 3407 Crash near Buffalo on Thursday night leaving 50 people deceased.

- NTSB board member Steven Chealander, speaking to reporters today from Buffalo, says further review of the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) also shows that stick shaker and stick pusher, devices that attempt to prevent pilots from entering an aerodynamic stall, had activated after the upset.

- Chealander yesterday reported that initial review of the CVR showed pilots discussing "significant" ice build-up on the wings and windshield.

- De Icing equipment was engaged 11 minutes after takeoff from Newark

- The plane was flying on autopilot during the approach to Buffalo's airport ( until the stall warning kicked in ), some say in poor weather conditions like they had that night, the aircraft should have been flown manually.

Steve Chealander NTSB Comments:

“To say that they should not have been flying on autopilot is not correct,” Chealander said during a briefing held in Amherst, New York. “Thus far, we haven’t determined it was severe icing, it doesn’t seem like it was a severe icing event.”
The crew on the flight voice recorder reported “significant icing.” Chealander said investigators don’t know what that means. The term “severe icing” is an official designation. However, “significant icing” isn’t.

- Moments after last contact with Air Traffic Control, the plane started jerking in motion.... the nose of the plane went upward at 31 degrees followed by a quick 45 degrees down. The plane then rolled about 46 degrees to the left followed by 105 degrees to the right, putting the aircraft onto its side.

- Radar indicated the plane fell from 1,800 feet to 1,000 feet in 5 seconds - the last radar hit was received at 900 feet and the plane was travelling roughly 115 mph.

Alex Rodriguez Positive Steriods Test 2003 2/7/09

Here we go again! Today, February 7, 2009, Sports Illustrated is out with a report saying that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for the steroid Primobolan and Testosterone while playing Major League Baseball with the Texas Rangers back in 2003.

Now, this is just a report, nothing has been proven as of yet but four different sources told SI this allegation.

Key Points:

- Rodriguez tested positive for Primobolan and testosterone while with the Rangers
- Under the 2003 survey testing, there were no penalties for a positive test
- Rodriguez was one of 104 players who tested positive that year
- On TV interviews, Alex Rodriguez has denied multiple times ever using Steroids
- 5% of Major League players tested positive that year - this sparked MLB to start issuing mandatory steroid drug tests.
-Rodriguez won his third straight mvp title in 2003

What is Stedroid Primobolan?

Primobolan is an anabolic steroid that can be orally taken or injected. It seems to be a very weak steroid but improves strength and really helps you gain muscle mass.

Final Thought - If these allegations are true, it would give Major League Baseball yet another black eye. I've watched countless interviews in which Alex Rodriguez denies using steroids, especially the 60 minute interview. Major League baseball is just very historic and it's image gets tarnished more and more as players are exposed. This one is a shocker to me! Alex Rodriguez is a great player and he doesn't even look like someone who has taken steroids. I always enjoy watching him play and i'm not even a Yankees fan. I have been a Phillies fan all my life.

Stimulus Package 2/6/09 - February 6, 2009

After rumors that the stimulus package was headed to the Senate yesterday, it appears lawmakers are still putting the final touches on the bill in order to get a passing vote.

There is a small group of both Republicans and Democrats that are trying to shave about 100 Billion off the package. This comes on the same day President Obama begged Washington to get this thing moving as job losses spike and unemployment rises.

Key Potential Cuts from the Stimulus:

Money to fight the Flu
Education Grants
Special Education
No Child Left Behind Act

With the cuts above, Washington hopes to add around 24-25 billion in infrastructure. As far as using American companies, if commodities prices rise over 20%, commodities would be able to be purchased outside the United States.

When all said and done, it looks like this stimulus package will be around 800 billion dollars. It looks like they are moving slower then expected on this bill. Hopefully we get something by next week because I believe Congress goes on vacation soon.

As some of you might already know, as soon as you sign into Xbox 360 today, 2/5/09, you will be prompted to download the latest update.

What is this Update?

The update addresses the issue that a few people were having with audio and their HDMI connection. This update will be mandatory for all Xbox LIVE members around the world. This update was available on Feb 3rd, 2009. The problem, which popped up following the November 19 launch of the New Xbox Experience, left some Xbox 360 users without sound on certain HDMI-connected displays. Prior to the NXE, these devices properly outputted Xbox 360 HDMI audio.

Feedback: An update for Fable 2 and GTA 4 that are crashing since this NXE would be better IMO.

Stimulus Package 2/5/09 - February 5, 2009

The Stimulus Package is headed to the US Senate today, 2/5/09, as the job losses keep adding up. Governor Jennifer Granholm of Michigan was on CNBC today pleading for the Government to get this package moving and passed. " We cannot wait any longer, things are getting worse, stop just standing around and do something, " Granholm pleaded.

Granholm also stated that this stimulus won't solve the whole problem but it could help stop the slide in our economy.

Panasonic announced yesterday it will cut 15,000 jobs
GlaxoSmithKline will axe more jobs, Media reports rumor 8000 - 10,000 jobs will be cut.

Key Stimulus Highlights:

- All stimulus spending must go toward American Goods and Services
- Hopes to create 3-5 million jobs
- Tax credit for home buyers of up to 15,000

Hopefully this package will pass today and we get this thing moving!

President Barack Obama announced a cap on executive pay today, 2/4/08.

President Barack Obama on Wednesday imposed $500,000 caps on senior executive pay for the most distressed financial institutions receiving federal bailout money saying that Americans are upset about this situation.

"For top executives to award themselves these kinds of compensation packages in the midst of this economic crisis isn't just bad taste, it's a bad strategy, and I will not tolerate it as president," Obama said during a White House appearance."We're going to be demanding some restraint in exchange for federal aid , so that when firms seek new federal dollars, we won't find them up to the same old tricks."

In 2008, Wall Street paid out 18 billion in bonuses while businesses faltered. Some of the big banks paying out bonuses argue that these bonus money is paid for the right to keep top talent.

Today 2/4/09, the stock market futures are bouncing due to the ADP employment report released at 8:15am. The ADP report showed a loss of 522,000 jobs in the private sector. This news is actually better then expected and you might see stocks rally today. The big number comes on Friday, Feb 6th, as the Government will release the real employment report. This employment report will include the unemployment rate and how many jobs the US lost in January. I will also be looking to see if they revise down the December report since Wall Street did not seem to believe the data.

Today, 2/4/09, Google Mobile Maps is getting a new feature called Google Latitude. How cool is this? Google Latitude allows the user to track his/her friends locations on Google Maps and allows you to broadcast your location as well.

If you have the GPS enabled in Google Maps on your mobile phone, you are probably familiar with the blue dot on the map that represents you wherever you go. Google Latitude is now essentially letting you share that blue dot with anyone you like. Call, email, IM your friends or meet up with them for lunch.

Fidelity Layoffs are said to be beginning this week and 1,700 are expected in total for the first quarter of 2009. As Wall Street continues to retest the October lows, there is no telling how bad the job market will get. Due out at 8:30am Friday, the Government will release the latest job loss data and unemployment figures which are expected to fall further.

Fidelity announced in the fall of 2008 that they will layoff 3,000 jobs. Of the 3,000 layoffs, 1,300 employees have already been let go as of November 2008. As stated above, this leaves 1,700 to go.

In order to stop the job losses we need to address where all this really started, the housing market. If we can get the housing market to stop going down, we will start to heal everything else. Banks will continue lending, jobs will be created, ect.

At this point we still don't know how Capcom plans to implement darkness, if at all beyond the shadow system they've been experimenting with. That system made it difficult to see what was in the shadows after walking around in bright light. A small earthquake rattled Northern New Jersey last night, February 2, 2009. Morris County Residents woke up to the sound of Thunder, but it was infact an earthquake which measured 3.0. Ok, so its February 2009 and we all know what that means! Valentines Day is rapidly approaching! Many people are asking similar questions today, what should I do for Valentine's Day this year? What should I get him/her for Valentine's Day? If you don't even know the date of Valentine's Day, you need to go back to dating school. The date of Valentines Day is 2/14/09.

Below is a list of creative ideas to Celebrate Valentines Day for 2009:

Flowers: This is pretty cliche but a dozen roses could be a nice way to show your love. Tulips work well too!

Chocolate: Chocolate is always a nice way to go, Russell Stover chocolates will do the trick.

Handwritten Note/Card: There is no way to speak from the heart on Valentines Day other then writing a handwritten note or card. If you want to go crazy, maybe think about burning the edges. Forget about emails or ecards, anyone can send those. Get old school and write a handwritten poem or note.

Restaurant: If you can actually get a reservation to a nice restaurant, go for it. Most will be booked as Valentines Day ( February 14th ) could very well could be the busiest day of the year for restaurant industry. If you live in a big city, try to get a high rise restaurant by the window with a great view.

Sing her a Song: Can you sing? Can you at least sing a little bit? Write a song and sing it to her, it will knock her socks off. Maybe even literally.

Hopefully the above suggestions show you a little bit of what to do for Valentines Day. You can do any of those or a combination. Maybe even top the night off with a walk. Good Luck!

Michael Phelps is out apologizing for smoking marijuana today, 2/2/09. This quick apology should not damage any of his muli millionaire sponsorships.

Wall Street is getting set to open up significantly lower today, 2/2/09, as the good bank bad bank plan that was announced early last week is now in jeopardy.

Beefy Taco Dip Recipe: Appetizer

Serving Size - 10

Prep time, 25 minutes

Ingredients:
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 cup (8 ounces) sour cream
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 pound ground beef
1 envelope taco seasoning
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded cheddar or taco cheese
4 cups shredded lettuce
2 medium tomatoes, diced
1 small onion, diced
1 medium green pepper, diced
Tortilla chips

Directions: In a small mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise until smooth. Spread on a 12- to 14-in. pizza pan or serving dish. Refrigerate for 1 hour. In a saucepan over medium heat, brown beef; drain. Add taco seasoning and tomato sauce; cook and stir for 5 minutes. Cool completely. Spread over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate. Just before serving, sprinkle with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion and green pepper. Serve with chips. Yield: 8-10 servings.

There seems to be some kind of error this morning, January 31, 2009 using Google. Just before 10:00am Est time every time I make a search, it comes up with a malware warning and says:

" This site may harm your computer ." This is a huge problem and seems to be effecting everyone. This will not only effect users who are doing google searches, but will effect people relying on google for traffic. I've never actually seen this error message by google before but hopefully they get it resolved. If you have any updates to add, comment below!

What to look for as far as commercials? If you blink, you might miss it, but Beer companies are going to be running 1 second beer ads as a way to cut costs. This might actually work because if they stick a picture of a beer up for 1 second and take it away, people will remember it.

Cardinals Vikings Blackout - NFL Playoffs 1/4/09

Both NFL teams, Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings are trying to avoid a first round playoff Blackout for local television. The rule is, if teams don't sell out the stadium the game gets blacked out on local television.

As of Thursday night, Minnesota had roughly 8,000 seats left to fill, and Arizona has just under 3,700 seats. The league is giving these two nfl teams extra time due to the poor economy.

In the United States, the first baby in 2009 that was born was from Chicago. Chicagotribune.com is reporting that a girl who waited just two seconds into the New Year to greet her Bensenville parents may be the first baby born in the Chicago area in 2009, a Loyola University Medical Center spokeswoman said.
According to the Tribune, Amaranta Aguilar came in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and measures 19 1/4 inches, Loyola spokeswoman Nora Plunkett said.

Other 2009 born babies that were close were from San Antonio and New Jersey, but the above baby from Chicago was the first newborn in 2009.

There have been many earthquakes at Yellowstone National Park starting on 12/27/08 and there has been one today, 12/30/08 which registered 2.4 in magnitude. This recent earthquake was 58 km (36 mi) ESE of West Yellowstone, MT. Most of these quakes are being felt on the Northern Park of Yellowstone Lake

While small earthquakes in Yellowstone National Park are common, so many in such a short period of time have geologists scratching their heads!

On Saturday night, December 27, 2008, a moderate earthquake hit Yellowstone with a magnitude of 3.9. This is similar to the Earthquake that was felt in Lancaster, PA on Saturday morning which registered at 3.3.

Yellowstone National Park sits on top of an active Volcanic area which continues to be monitored.

Eric Mangini Jets Coach Fired 12/29/08

Today, 12/29/08, The New York Jets have parted with their coach Eric Mangini. The recent Jets coach was a former New England Patriots defensive coordinator and was the leagues youngest head coach at age 37.

Mangini was named head coach of the New York Jets on Jan 17, 2006. His final record as a Jet comes in at 23-25....a losing record. He had one post season appearance in which he lost.
